CMV negative components
The Advisory Committee on Safety of Blood, Tissues and Organs (SaBTO) has released a position statement on the provision of CMV tested blood components, which includes recommendations of use. NHSBT has requested feedback from all hospitals regarding planned changes to the use of CMV negative components. Feedback should be sent to NHSBT Commissioning, Filton.

Learn cell salvage
An elearning module has been designed to increase awareness of a range of blood conservation techniques including intraoperative cell salvage (ICS) and post operative cell salvage (PCS). The module is aimed at those working in theatres including ODPs, theatre nurses, CSWs (theatre), clinical perfusionists, dedicated cell salvage operators, all grades of anaesthetists and surgeons. Consent for transfusion
A consent for transfusion action plan and supporting documents were launched at the SaBTO open meeting on 11 October. Details of the SaBTO consent recommendations and links to supporting documents are available in the BBT toolkit.
Indication codes
Indication codes for transfusion were revised by the NBTC in October 2011 and are available on the NBTC recommendations page.
