TOPPS results published
The results of the ‘Trial of prophylactic v. no prophylactic platelet transfusions’ (TOPPS) have been published in The New England Journal of Medicine
SaBTO advice on source countries of imported plasma for transfusion
SaBTO advice entitled 'Importation of plasma as a vCJD risk reduction measure: reconsideration of accepatble source countries' was published on the GOV.UK website in April 2013.

This document was updated and launched at the RCN Congress in May and is available on the RCN website
BCSH guidelines
An addendum to the BCSH Administration of Blood Components guideline which relates to avoidance of TACO and consent for transfusion is now available on the BCSH website. The following guidelines have also been published on the site recently:
- Laboratory diagnosis of functional iron deficiency
- Thrombocytosis/thrombocythaemia (clarification of diagnostic advice given in 2010 guidelines)
- The diagnosis and management of thrombocytopenic purpura and other thrombotic microangiopathies
- The investigation and management of acute transfusion reactions.
