Labelling of blood components

The blood component pack label contains essential information about the blood component, including its ABO group and Rh type, and the expiry date. Components issued for a patient also have a compatibility label that identifies the patient for whom the blood component has been prepared. This may be an adhesive label, or a tie-on tag, as shown in Figure 3 (below) and Figure 6.
